| Brooklyn born artist Joseph Milazzo brings together a series of paintings reflecting his time spent in and out of the bars of New York City.
A prolific fine artist throughout his teen years, by his early twenties Milazzo actively stopped painting in favor of developing his skills in graphic design. After a long hiatus, compelled by the need to return to a more tactile form of expression, he produced his first painting in more than a decade. That piece (Bartholomew At Work, above), though crude, proved to Milazzo that the ideas and methods he had been developing in his head had merit and could be honed to create a distinctive style.
Using acrylic paints, Milazzo’s approach balances realism against a more personal, illustrative style. His use of muted colors and earth tones help to give his pieces a warm, comforting aesthetic.
Inspired by his love of pub culture, Milazzo set out to document his return to painting, leading him to his first ever art show entitled “Bar: Scenes of pubs, patrons and purveyors of all things drink."

The art show will be held at 3 Jolly Pigeons Pub in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. The bar is one of Brooklyn's oldest pubs, having opened in 1906.
Parking in the area can be tough, so if you have to drive, car pooling is suggested. Otherwise the R train is 1 block away. You can take it to the Bay Ridge Avenue stop. The B9, B64, B63 and B70 bus lines are also within a block or 2 of the pub.
Live music will also be a part of the show. Legendary Brooklyn troubadour Tommy Lombardozzi will be performing with his band, a merry band of misfits known as The Hollow Legs. They'll be performing a lot of classic (and some obscure) drinking songs -in keeping with the evening's theme!
